Samenvatting

Numerical simulations of the impact of a 90 mm HEP/HESH-round against an 80 mm thick plate of rolled homogeneous armor (RHA) are compared with experimental data. The 2D axissymmetrical simulations were performed in AUTODYN. Analysis of the results showed that the deformation of the projectile upon impact could be characterized by simplified linear equations. Terminal effectiveness of the round could be predicted as a function of impact velocity and fuse delay. A good agreement between the simulated and experimental spall diameter and thickness was found. The maximum difference was less than 10 %.
