Heating, confinement and extrapolation to reactors

Onderzoeksoutput: Bijdrage aan een tijdschriftArtikelpeer review

Samenvatting

The determination of the total amount of heating power coupled to the plasma and the energy confinement time for realizing the plasma conditions suitable for the reactor is presented. Additional heating power is necessary to reach ignition, which is performed by neutral beam injection and radio frequency heating theoretical model of anomalous diffusion linked to different type of turbulence exist can be classified in two main categories, electrostatic and magnetic turbulence. The kinetic energy of the ions has to be large for fusion reactions to occur. Heating methods liberate energy to the plasma ions, which can lead to the formation of energetic ion tails. The fusion power output is due to reactions of thermal neutrons mainly produced in beam target reactions and a small fraction due to beam-beam reactions. The α particle deposit their energy mainly to the electrons and the total heating power for an ignited reactor is produced by the fast α particles.
