Samenvatting

Leaky cables (LC) are commonly used to guarantee the continuity of radiocommunications in underground environments. The paper is about a feasability study on the use of LC for detecting intruders in service tunnels. After a theoretical part on the fields generated by leaky cables in their different operating modes, the paper deals with the experimental characterization of the radiating mode cable (RMC) chosen for the application. Electric field measurements carried out in a 80 meter test tunnel are also reported. The principle of an intrusion detection system based on two parallel RMC is described and its feasability is demonstrated.
