Samenvatting

Five cases are reported in the literature of direct ballistic impact into breast implants. In a total of three of them, the conclusions reported that the breast implants had an influence and helped to save the lives of the victims. This article aims to verify this claim, and in order to achieve it, some silicone breast implants have been impacted with pistol ammunition. Also, some armour material was added in the back of the implant to assess the feasibility of stopping the bullet and its influence in the process of slowing down the bullet was analysed. Particular attention has been paid to assess the damage produced by the back face deformation, since the armour size is small and it would be place in close contact with the human ribs. The considered threat is 9 x 19 mm Full Metal Jacket.
