Load and Injury Risk during Military Training: Screening & Monitoring

    Project: Onderzoek

    Projectdetails

    Doel van het project

    The aim is to screen and monitor recruits in order to:
    1. identify individual injury risk profiles;
    2. improve training programs to avoid training peaks and
    3. assess the use of wearable tracking devices in the training load during military training.

    Hoofdbevindingen

    After the familiarization with the Zephyr equipment and software and after the review on High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) training programs, the study had to be redesigned. The original target population (recruits) had to be replaced by deconditioned active duty military personnel. 40 subjects were recruited for this study and we had an exceptional drop-out rate of 72% of participants. This was unexpected and a new question was raised therefore: what are the reason for poor compliance ?
    This research has highlighted a major problem in the follow-up of the military personnel: compliance. 72% of the participants dropped out before the end of the program. The main issue was the motivation of the participants although while those who completed the program showed an improvement in quality of life and fitness.
