Biografie

Santiago Villarreal-Narvaez is a researcher at the MWMW unit, Royal Military Academy (RMA). Working on the READYMED EUROPE project. Research interests: Simulation, HMI, HCI, Gesture Interaction, and Extended Reality.

After completing his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and Master's degree in Web Intelligence from Jean Monnet University, Saint-Étienne, France in 2007 and 2010 respectively, he went on to earn a Ph.D. in Engineering Science in 2023. His doctoral research focused on Gestural Interaction and the gesture vocabulary proposed by end-users. He has been a Professor at Universidad de Las Américas, teaching software development, and has also collaborated with the Intelligent and Interactive Systems Laboratory (SI2 Lab-UDLA) on the ePHoRt project. Additionally, he has worked on research projects (ECA MecaTech, CARDIAMMONIA) to develop interfaces at LouRIM (UCLouvain).He was a postdoctoral researcher at NADI-UNamur, where he contributed to the OPTIMIS project (MecaTech), focused on the development of innovative human-machine interfaces for controlling ground weapon systems. His work involved the design of a multimodal fusion engine and the implementation of a haptic prototype enabling tactile gesture input on the thigh.
