    Résumé

This paper presents experiments results from vibration of reinforced concrete beams subjected to progressive cracking. Experiments are made on three reinforced concrete beams of 6 meters length. Cracks are artificially induced in these beams by static loading test in a certain number of load-steps. After each static-load step, a complete Experimental Modal Analysis is performed in order to determine all the dynamic characteristics of the beams. Their evolution allows to draw conclusions about the suitability of dynamic and static techniques. This investigation is the first step in the development of the dynamic system characteristics (DSC's) based technic for monitoring damage in large concrete structure. The influence of progressive cracking on eigenfrequencies, modal damping ratios and mode shapes is investigated. The nonlinearity behaviour of the beams is investigated. The results show that progressive cracking of the beams results in measurable frequency shift. The evolution of modal damping ratios is also commented.
