Résumé
A study was conducted to investigate heating, confinement, and extrapolation to reactors. It was demonstrated that the total amount of heating power coupled to the plasma Ptot and the energy confinement time were determining parameters for realizing the plasma conditions suitable for the reactor. It was observed that the maximum beta and the maximum fusion power was limited by the maximum achievable plasma density in a reactor operating at T ≅ 15 keV. It was also demonstrated that the engineering quantities were replaced by a set of non-dimensional ones which were assumed to express the physics of confinement and that other expressions were considered to fit to the confinement database.
