Description

Introduction: data collecting for quantifying changes in timelines for a conflict with a near-peer adversary is an ongoing endeavor to assess if medical support for LSCO is fit for purpose. Future conflicts will likely resemble World War 2. Since then, great efforts and improvements on medical procedures, materiel and evacuation means have been procured but in the past decades, these were used in Counter Insurgency settings where aerial superiority was maintained. Materials and Methods: we participated in the VW/CC’24 Exercise and established for a large variety of patients, the entire timelines in a simulated Article 5 scenario. Results: metrics pertaining to triage, transport, Damage Control Resuscitation (DCR) and Damage Control Surgery (DCS) are presented for patients with complex injury and combination of CBRN and trauma. Discussion: Data collecting and sharing allows to identify gaps and provide lessons identified in the frame of LSCOs. Conclusions: establishing timelines from a live exercise within an Article 5 scenario provides valuable insight in assessing current medical support doctrine applicability. It also participates to the lessons identified process. Summary: we report on the results of a timing experiment during the VW/CC’24 exercise with the purpose of establishing timelines on the field for evacuation, triage, Damage Control Resuscitation, Damage Control Surgery, and decontamination for CBRN and Complex injury types in mass casualty (MASCAL) situations.
