Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, Institute of Fusion Energy and Nuclear Waste Management – Institute for Plasma Physics (FZJ-IFN-1) and Ecole Royale Militaire / Koninklijke Militaire School, Laboratory for Plasma Physics (LPP-ERM/KMS) have a long-standing partnership within the Trilateral Euregio Cluster (TEC), a transnational organisational structure set up to combine and focus the efforts on fusion oriented plasma physics;

FZJ-IFN-1 is currently executing the T-Monitor Project within the ITER program, developing a high-precision system to monitor tritium retention in the vacuum vessel. For the execution of the Work Package: Mechanical Development and Design for the T-Monitor Project, which requires specialized mechanical engineering expertise under ITER-specific conditions (vacuum, radiation, thermal, and electromagnetic loads), FZJ-IFN-1 requests LPP-ERM/KMS to provide the support of an experienced engineer possessing the qualifications and experience listed below to contribute to the tasks, deliverables, and reporting described.

The topic of tritium measurement at the wall of fusion devices is closely related to the expertise that is available in LPP-ERM/KMS. LPP-ERM/KMS’s experience in developing ICRH antennas for plasma heating, as well as systems for wall conditioning and tritium removal, aligns directly with the T-Monitor objectives: the system is intended to monitor tritium both during plasma operation (to predict when wall cleaning is needed) and after cleaning (to evaluate the cleaning efficiency).
