Abstract

The 2D Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations, XFOIL, infrared thermography, and force measurements are used to investigate the flow patterns around a laminar DU89-134/14 airfoil and to evaluate its performance at a low Reynolds number. Flow separation locations as well as lift and drag coefficients are computed with 2D RANS simulations using the transitional (γ - Reθ) SST turbulence model. The separation locations are determined experimentally by calculating the inflection points of the surface temperature distribution given by infrared thermograms. Lift and drag coefficients are determined experimentally by force balance measurements.
