Abstract
A systematic study is made of the efficiency of first-harmonic ion-cyclotron heating in hot, dense, large plasmas. Promising heating times are derived when the imposed axial wavelength satisfies the rather restrictive high-temperature, high-density limitation kz>~ωpi2Viωci-1c-2.
