Abstract

First the link between the diffusivity, the power deposition profile with its time dependence and the confinement time is discussed by means of a simplified transport equation. As the confinement does not behave classically (or neoclassically) due to not clearly identified anomalous processes, it is necessary to extrapolate the present empirical confinement laws to the reactor conditions to define the reactor parameters. The main ohmic and additional heated empirical scaling laws are discussed together with their extrapolation to the ignition conditions. The principal methods of measurement of plasma energy content are also discussed.
