Abstract

A hot electron and ion theory of RF power absorption utilising the resonances of a finite plasma cylinder, having the distinct feature of encompassing both the magneto-ion and the electron domain ( omega ≤ omega ci up to omega ce and omega pe) is verified experimentally in the following parameter range: magnetic field strengths of 0-1000 G, electron densities (Ne) of the order of 10 9-1011 cm-3, electron temperatures T e of a few eV, ion temperatures Ti approximately= 0, 105 Hz < f = omega /2 pi <109 Hz, axial wavelengths lambda = 2 pi /k of a few centimeters.
