Abstract

The scattering behaviour of a hot non-uniform plasma cylinder described in the perturbed scalar pressure approximation is studied. The computations lead to a theoretical representation of the reflected field as a function of the plasma electron density which shows a striking resemblance to the observational data. The quantitative agreement with experiments is fair but not perfect and is shown to depend on the bulk density distribution adopted.
