Abstract

Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIEDs), explosive weapons detonated remotely by radio signals, become increasingly a prevalent threat in today's conflicts, due to the worldwide availability of cheap electronic circuits and diverse radio technology [1]. In order to protect vehicles or convoys against RCIEDs, vehicle-mounted jammers work by jamming the control of these explosive devices. Our project aims to design a broadband jamming antenna system operates over the radio frequency band from 500 MHz to 6 GHz. The jamming system may compose of more than one antenna to create a 'barrage' effect protecting 360° around the vehicle. To ensure the jamming effectiveness, the optimization must be done not only with a stand-alone antenna but also with an integrated system including the antenna and its host platform in the presence of the ground.
