Controlled Blast and Axial Load Testing of Reinforced Concrete Columns

Project: Research

Project Details

Goal of the project

Reinforced concrete columns are critical to the structural integrity of many Defence and civilian buildings. When subjected to an explosion, failure of these columns can lead to progressive collapse of the structure. This project will investigate RC column behaviour under simultaneous axial and blast loading by developing a controlled reduced-scale laboratory setup allowing for a realistic lading. The goal is to be able to measure the dynamic highly non-linear response and ultimately support the design of safer, blast-resilient infrastructure.
