Project Details
Goal of the project
The global aim of this research project is to give a complete overview of the different actors in the Belgian D&S sector as well as the competitive structure of its industry and to provide an overview of the instruments we can use to support our this industry in line with current European regulation on Competition Policy and State Aid. Supporting our national companies not only directly impact our economy but also indirectly as we decrease our strategic dependency on other nations (Fondation Concorde, 2022). In order to arrive at this goal, we identified the following research objectives:
1. Definition and map of the Belgian Defense & Security (D&S) Sector
2. D&S Sector database
3. Development of a policy toolkit to support the sector.
Role of the organisation
Project coordination and research tasks.
Key findings
The project provided a policy toolkit to ensure that policy makers can use the full potential of the current legislative framework to strategically support the D&S sector.
As the ultimate objective of this research is to provide input for a Belgian Defence, Industry and Research Strategy (DIRS), the project is predicted to have a major impact on exactly these 3 domains, i.e. Scientific knowledge, economy and policy and public services.
