Goal of the project

This research will examine the daily life experience of the Belgian military during the “Phoney War” (Sep 1939 - May 1940) in order to make an inventory of sources and to confirm or reject the long held view of a Belgian army of some 650.000 men, troubled by social tensions and political twists rendering it incapable of effectively fighting the German invasion of May 1940.
