Supervising bachelor’s and master’s theses

Activity: Participating in or organising an event (conference, measurement campaign, ...)Attending a course without exam

Description

Do you supervise one or more students in writing a bachelor paper or a master's thesis? Do you want to take a closer look at the effectiveness of your supervisory process? In this training, we discuss your role as a supervisor, a provider of feedback and as an assessor. The following questions, among others, come up for discussion:

How do you coach your students to do their work independently? How do you deal with large numbers of students who require guidance? Etc.
How do you give quality feedback? What kind of feedback is effective and meaningful?
How do you evaluate the end product?

During this training, some evidence-based frameworks are provided. There is plenty of time to exchange experiences and tips & tricks with colleagues. Both those who have just started supervising one or more students and those who have several years of experience or supervise larger groups are welcome.

Goals

At the end of this training participants are:

able to increase the effectiveness and quality of the guidance process for a bachelorpaper and/or master’s thesis.
able to indicate which forms of feedback exist and which forms can be used effectively when.
inspired to optimize the evaluation process for the bachelorpaper and/or master’s thesis.

Teaching methods

Based on evidence-based research, a brief framework is outlined for the qualitative supervision of bachelorpapers and master's theses. In addition, there is ample room for discussion and exchange of good practices. From this theoretical basis and exchange of expertise, participants formulate concrete action points for their own practice.
