Description

Abdelhafidh Moumen utilized Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) to capture high-speed velocity fields within the complex muzzle flow of firearms during the intermediate ballistics phase. By seeding the propellant gases with nanoparticles, he was able to quantitatively measure supersonic gas velocities and visualize the formation of the Mach disk and under-expanded jet. This non-intrusive approach provided critical experimental data to validate numerical simulations of how muzzle gases interact with projectiles and suppressors.
