Abstract
Using a 2-D antenna-plasma coupling code and a 3-D tracing code, ion-cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH) generated power-deposition profiles of INTOR tokamak are optimized with the criteria that the absorption be single pass and that RF heats the plasma core avoiding the edge heating. A 2 multiplied by 2 ICRH antenna configuration with a pi -phasing both in the y- and z-array and the choice of 3 lambda /4 antennas in the y-direction is found to produce central RF power-deposition profiles of deuterium second harmonic heating. With the above k// parallel -shaping, the entire power spectrum radiated by the antenna is centrally absorbed in the plasma.
