Abstract
The concept of zero dead, mainly applied to the protection of 'soldiers' lives, should be approached in its mythical, technological, political, strategic and ethical aspects. It is still inaccessible nowadays, yet it tends to affect the cultural parameters of combat and to balance the tolerance of losse's based on several criteria, including criteria relating to the vital or non-vital character of stakes for the State engaging its men. These attitudes will also have more impact on the way of dealing with a crisis in the framework of the European Security and Defense Policy (ESDP).
