While research and practice have given significant attention to interventions during initial phases, such as the pre-deployment preparations and in-theatre support, the reintegration phase remains relatively under-acknowledged. However, the reintegration period plays a crucial role in shaping the well-being and resilience of service members as they transition back to their home life. Reintegration involves resuming various roles in the community, family, and at work while also navigating different challenges.
In this presentation, we delve into the multifaceted characteristics of reintegration, with a specific focus on the challenges faced by military personnel in the professional sphere. We will shed light on the unique obstacles encountered by service members as they seek to reintegrate into their professional environment in the garrison after deployment. From difficulties in adapting to the work rhythm in the garrison, to issues with colleagues and the organisational culture.
Drawing from a systematic literature review and insights from semi-structured interviews, we were able to identify the specific challenges, strategies, and support systems that can either facilitate or hinder the reintegration process within the professional sphere.
